In his highly detailed report, circa June 1815, Eberhard von Hymmen recalled the involvement of the 29th Prussian Infantry Regiment, and the troops of Major-General von Jagow's brigade in the defence of St. Amand and the fighting during the Battle of Ligny on the 16th June 1815: ‘Towards 2 o’clock in the afternoon the enemy started his attack by throwing a cloud of Tirailleurs forward against my left flank, which were countered by Captain von Rohr, commander of the two battalions from the sharpshooter division, which were positioned close to my left wing. This flank was reinforced by 1st Lieutenant von Geissler and a detachment of Jägers from the various regiments. The French then attacked the right flank and three officers, Lieutenants von Geissler, Iltztl and Heese were severely wounded. However, the excellent defence undertaken by Major von Kleist at this point did not allow the enemy to penetrate the line and to enter the village.’
