The highly detailed account provides a decription of the part played by the 7th Dutch Militia Battalion during the Waterloo campaign. First published in 1835, the account included details of the scene which greeted the battalion when they arrived at Quatre Bras on the evening of the 16th June: 'Having arrived at the corner of Quatre Bras I noticed a horrific scene. Thousands of bodies lay piled upon each other; thousands of victims of the unbridled lust for power of one man, of one tyrant, who if he had been able to dominate the entire world would have found the earth too small for his unbridled tyranny! There lay the earthly hope of so many loving parents, the lust, the staff, the comfort of so many spouses and loyal wives! With frightful expectations, with all the feeling of love and loyalty, they waited for news of their men at home, while those who were the object of so much concern were lying here.’ It should be noted that the contents of this file are also available in the on-line archive.
