In his detailed letter of the 26th July 1815, to the Commissioner-General for the Department of War, Leonardus de Crassier explained the circumstances which surrounded his elevation to the command of the battalion during the Waterloo campaign, and made various recommendations in relation to those officers who warranted promotion: 'I have the honour to inform Your Excellency, that as Lieutenant-Colonel Grunebosch was wounded during the affair of the 16th last, the command of the battalion devolved upon me, and I subsequently had the honour to command during the events of the 16th, 17th and 18th, and I was fully able to observe the conduct of many officers. Therefore, I now feel able to make the following recommendations to Your Excellency, so that the various vacant positions in the battalion can be filled, and also to provide Your Excellency with the opportunity to reward the loyal duty and military service.' The entire contents of this file forms part of the on-line archive.
