The fascinating account which was first published in 1855, provides a detailed description of the part played by the 4th Dutch Light Dragoons during the Waterloo campaign, and in particular during the battle on Sunday 18th June 1815: 'Towards four o'clock the brigade galloped to the centre of the line, with the 4th Dragoons in the lead. The regiment came to a halt between two squares, that on the right being composed of Hanoverians, and that on the left of Nassauers; a Hanoverian horse battery stood with sections in between the squadron intervals. The aforementioned enemy Cuirassiers and Chasseurs also moved to this point, and as before, challenged us. The staff trumpeter of the 6e Chasseurs rode off after having received several sabre cuts from 2nd Lieutenant van Eupen. As this officer returned, his horse was killed, and he was assisted by a Nassau skirmisher who jumped towards him into the square.'
