The report provides a highly detailed description of the Waterloo campaign and the role of the troops in the 1st Brigade, 3rd Netherlands Division. In his report Colonel Detmers recalled the involvement of the division in repelling the attack by the Moyenne Garde at the climax of the battle on Sunday 18th June 1815: ‘Having finally found a place to deploy on the left of two battalions in line, who kept up a heavy and well-maintained fire, and a battalion behind the position formed in square, the three under my command changed direction so as to move to the right and marched into the line at the moment the battalion in square and a corps of Jägers placed on its left began to yield, while the three remaining battalions of the brigade joined the first three. His Excellency, the commanding general, then placed himself at the head of the entire brigade, which at that moment came under heavy musket fire and was threatened by the enemy cavalry.'
