In his letter of the 4th August 1841, Adriaan Bijleveld recalled the situation with the Horse Artillery at Frasnes on the evening of the 15th June 1815: ‘Having heard gunfire throughout the morning of the 15th June, Major Normann, who was in command of the 2nd Battalion of Nassau infantry placed at Frasnes, agreed with me to limber the battery, while he collected his battalion, and to place it in the artillery park; it was during the afternoon of that day that French Lanciers appeared in front of the village and it was decided to take up a position in rear of the village on the road towards Quatre Bras. After this the battery retired from the park, followed by the battalion of infantry; as it did so, it left a company in the village to cover the movement by delaying the Lanciers, which were now entering the village in large numbers.’ The contents of this file are available in Netherlands Correspondence #1 and Netherlands Correspondence #3.
