The account provides a highly emotive description of the part played by the Nassau troops during the battle of Waterloo. In his detailed account, circa 1837, Johann Holighausen recalled the the retreat to Mont St. Jean and the dramatic events which heralded the start of Sunday 18th June 1815: It must have been towards 4 o'clock in the afternoon when we arrived at Waterloo; that same evening there was a terrible thunderstorm and the ground was turned to a quagmire.; we remained in our camp until the early monring of the 18th June, when the enemy came so close that I thought - like so many of my comrades - that God needed to be with me and with us all. Fortunately, this happened. That morning Prince von Sachsen-Weimar came to us and told us to form square; it was thus ordered ordered how we should fight. Shortly therafter I once again became afraid.' It should be noted that the entire contents of this file are now available within the new on-line archive.
