The two items provide a description of the part played by the Nassau troops of the 28th Regiment during the campaign, and the severe wound that Friedrich Eberhard sustained at Waterloo. In his highly detailed report he described the situation facing the officers and men. 'Towards midday on the 17th the battalion retired from the battlefield at Quatre Bras and withdrew together with the whole army to Waterloo. The frontline was formed in the evening and the battalion received a position on the extreme left wing. A village (Smohain) in front of the battalion was occupied by a company during the night of the 17th to the 18th. The defence of this village and the maintenance of a line of communication with the troops on the left and right were the battalion's principle objectives on the 18th. The lack of ammunition could only partly be alleviated by the supply of cartridges from the Duchy of Nassau regiments.' The contents of this file are available within the new on-line archive.
