In his highly detailed report of the 28th November 1824, Wilhelm Seeger recalled the involvement of the 2nd Light Dragoon Regiment in the fierce fighting between the cavalry in the afternoon of Sunday the 18th June 1815, during the Battle of Waterloo: ‘After the regiment had maintained this position for around half an hour, an adjutant from the commanding General rode from the height and ordered our commanding officer to advance. The regiment advanced immediately, and broke into squadrons by division in order to ascend the slope through the intervals between the artillery and the infantry squares, which were also about to advance, and which greeted us with a loud ‘Hurrah!’ which we returned. After having passed between the infantry the squadrons reformed. About 800 to 1,000 paces in front of us stood 6 to 8 strong enemy cavalry squadrons, consisting of Chasseurs, Lanciers and Cuirassiers, the latter on the left flank.’
