The letter provides highly detailed remarks on the letter by Wilhelm von Tschirschnitz of the Bremen Light Infantry Battalion. In his letter of the 3rd December 1824, Julius von Schkopp recalled: ‘Immediately after the enemy cavalry had retreated due to our advance and simultaneous fire, I observed a strong column of enemy infantry coming directly towards us. I asked and received permission from General Alten to attack in square with the bayonet. But before this could happen, the enemy moved to the left towards the square commanded by General Sir Colin Halkett, which was to our right, who received the enemy with a murderous fire delivered at a very short distance, which of course, stopped the enemy. Shortly thereafter, at six o’clock according to my watch, which I had just checked, I was wounded and was removed from the battlefield.’ The entire contents of this file are also available in Hanoverian Correspondence #1.
