The letter, which is dated the 19th July 1815,  provides a detailed description of the confusion on the road between Mont St. Jean and Waterloo, and the meeting which took place in the evening with Brigade Surgeon Wilhelm Lauprecht of the 5th Hanoverian Brigade, which was written in the third person: 'Towards 8 o'clock in the evening of the 18th of the month previous, while retiring wounded from the battle of Waterloo, he had followed the high road and entered a large wood where he met Brigade Surgeon Lauprecht, who was on foot leading his horse by hand. It was then that he showed the surgeon his wound, but was informed by the same that he could not assist him, as he had no material on his person. Nothing more was discussed between the two and they were separated shortly thereafter by the confusion; namely he neither told the French cavalry was following them, nor did he advise him to retiret.' The entire contents of this file are in the on-line archive.
