The various letters provide a detailed description of the involvement of the 4th Foot Artillery Battery of the King's German Legion in the early part of the campaign, and during the fighting at Les Quatre Bras, where Friedrich Jahns was severely wounded: 'Thereafter, we and several other batteries received the order to move to the left flank to silence the fearfil French artillery fire. We were ordered to mount and did so. My place was normally on the limber where the ammunition was kept. However, when we started I stood in front of the cannon. I placed myself facing the touchhole, that is, on the barrel. One of my comrades, who placed the fuses in it, sat in front of me. We sat as if on a horse. I put my feet in the towing rope and held on to my comrade's right shoulder. We went off at a trot. We again went on to the high road, which ran to the right of a wood, where the Osnabrück Battalion was deployed.'  The entire contents of this file are within the on-line archive.
