The account provides a highly detailed description of the situation with the Allied army from the morning of the 17th until the morning of Sunday the 18th June 1815. In his account of the 16th September 1841, Friedrich von Wachholtz noted that: ‘The Brunswick Corps was positioned on the right of the centre, close to the highroad. The farm of Hougoumont was occupied by a regiment of English Guards from Byng’s Brigade. The Avantgarde Battalion moved into the wood. On the heights in rear of Hougoumont, acting as a reserve, were the Leib and 1st Light Battalions, as well as the Nassau Brigade under Kruse. The remaining battalions of the Brunswick Corps (the 2nd and 3rd Light Battalions having returned from Alten’s Division shortly before), were deployed in closed columns on the plateau. In front of the Allied centre were positioned a line of 11 artillery batteries, with those of the Brunswick Corps placed directly in front of their own battalions.’
