The two letters provide a detailed description of the events in Brussels and the situation with the Foot Guards in the immediate aftermath of the Waterloo campaign. In his letter of the 17th July 1815, William Drummond explained to his sister: ‘You have no idea of the civility the British officers meet with in Brussels. I am quartered in one of the finest houses in the town and their attention is beyond description. They are people most excessively rich and no formality the more at home I make myself the more they like it. Col. Dashwood has been living in the same house, he was wounded but is recovered and has gone today to the army. I propose going up with Capt. Montgomerie & Lake who were also wounded but have got well again.’ In addition to the letters the file contains extensive genealogical information and details of William Drummond’s military service.
