Since the formation of the company in 2001, John Franklin, an experienced military historian based in Switzerland, and a team of dedicated researchers have undertaken an extensive study of the events in 1815. The compilation of manuscript material from all of the major historical centres in Europe has resulted in a series of printed books and a comprehensive on-line archive. The series of books will encompass all aspects of the campaign and each of the contingents that participated. Yet perhaps the most exciting part of the study is the creation of a new on-line archive, which will allow students of the campaign to access a wealth of hitherto unpublished material from the comfort of their own home. In the next few months hundreds of items will be availabe. Each of the files is edited by Martin Windrow and typeset by The Dorset Press, thereby providing the most  professional  and comprehensive source of reference material available on the Waterloo campaign.

A significant new development for historians worldwide

1815 Limited has been most fortunate to have benefitted from the contributions made by a number of individuals to the study, and it is wholly appropriate to acknowledge this within the context of the project.

Erwin Muilwijk and Pierre de Wit have played a vital role in providing translated material on the Netherlands contingent from a number of manuscript sources. The information contained within the letters of the van Löben Sels family collection are integral to the whole study, and provide a fascinating insight into the political situation in the Netherlands prior to the start of the campaign, as well as the contribution of the Dutch and Belgian troops to the fighting. Although most of the work in the various German archives and museums has been undertaken by John Franklin, several individuals have provided invaluable assistance with their excellent research, in particular Jens Müller-Koppe, Manfred Pult and Rainer Lohlker, in Hannover, Wiesbaden and Wolfenbüttel, respectively.

No study of the Waterloo campaign would be complete without material from the numerous French archives, and 1815 Limited have been most fortunate to have received considerable assistance from Dr. Stefanie Frey and Dr. David Humair at the Château de Vincennes and Archive Nationale de France. The true extent of the research undertaken by these esteemed individuals will become evident during the course of 2010.

A wealth of new material on the British is also a feature of the study. Mike Robinson, author of the book: The Battle of Quatre Bras, has been collating and preparing documents from a number of sources in the United Kingdom, including more than one hundred and fifty local record offices and municipal libraries. This new material, aligned with that procured from a number of important family and private collections, will add significantly to the knowledge of key events during the campaign. In addition to the above, 1815 Limited is pleased to announce that the renowned military artist, Gerry Embleton, is illustrating each of the books within the series and producing new material for the on-line archive. The combination of enthralling contemporary writing and modern visual expression heralds an exciting new development in Napoleonic publishing.
