This important new series of books incorporates the first of two volumes concerned with the 3rd Regiment of Foot Guards (Scots Guards). Drawn predominately from contemporary manuscript sources, the book contains a wealth of previously unpublished material sourced from the archives of each of the nations that participated in the campaign. Particular attention has been given to the defence of the Château of Hougoumont on Sunday 18th June 1815, and extensive new research has revealed that there were a number of French incursions into the complex, that the Allies sustained critical losses during the fighting in the orchard, and that there were repeated attempts by the Allied garrison to secure more ammunition. The text is supplemented by an array of notes and appendices, plus twenty full colour maps which have been created from contemporary sources, making the book an essential addition to every Napoleonic collection.
